Ooo… thanks for telling me this. I was thinking of purchasing it because I’ve played / like (does that make me bad? D:) Sword of Mana for the GBA. Still haven’t beaten it… the last boss is a bitch and I’m the heroine. >

Oh lame! It cut off my post! Well whatever, I had just said I was confused at the lack of magic when I saw my friend playing and that you can only own one spirit at a time? I think, and blah whatever the song is peppy and cute. Sorry for double posting.

I agree with this assessment. I don’t know what the hell happened but it’s like they’ve lost their minds with this series. Secret of Mana was friggin awesome and still lives in my top-10. Seiken Densetsu 3 (still not available in US because they’re being idiots about it) was also extremely sweet. Then Legend of Mana came out and sort of sucked. Then there was that unholy travesty on the PS2. ARGH. The GBA one was okay. That was a remake of the original that was on GameBoy in the US as ‘Final Fantasy Adventure’, but it was sort of dry in terms of plot.
When I saw some of the talk about the DS one I figured it looked like another SoM but then when I got it and plugged it in the first thing that struck me was that the graphics look horrible. The second thing that struck me was that the gameplay was awkward and frankly it didn’t even feel like a ‘Mana’ game. I relegated it to the box of games to play if my legs get amputated and I have nothing better to do.

What a coincidence; Magical Starsign was my first DS game, and Children of Mana was my second. I’ve already gone through the game (with Poppen, the magician character who is bad with close-range weaponry, using a sword practically the whole time… fail much?) and it was pretty easy, though the last couple of bosses really kick your ass.
